Our neighbor's house is lemon yellow. I have absolutely nothing against unique color choices, but which color should we choose so that the yellow of our neighbor doesn't stand out and causes a pain in the eye? Everybody else in the neighborhood has dull and boring colors. What compliments lemon yellow most? Please don't say yellow.

A simple soft-pale blue but not a baby blue. A blue that has a light black mix in it so it won't shout at you or anyone else and it should clam down the yellow house a lot too.
Or offer to repaint your neighbors house for them, he he he.
We painted our house this blue and everyone of our neighbors commented on how lovely it turned out and how it toned down the wide colors of the other houses that were painted such loud colors.
Once we were finished painting our house most of the neighborhood decided to repaint their own houses as well and not in loud colors either but with colors that blended with our blue house and now our neighborhood is a real show place.

Hate to say it, but white will offset your neighbor's yellow. Paint your trim and your front door a dark teal or navy blue to contrast and hope your house looks better than theirs. Add dark greenery and flowers to help detract the eye from your neighbor's house to yours. Maybe people won't notice the yellow house if the white house next to it is awesome! ; )
