Why are people calling this guy racist? He asked an honest question about a phenomenon that he has experienced in his daily life. Maybe if people didn't create such a hostile environment whenever anyone asks about race, we could have a more open and honest dialogue about these things and understand eachother better. But, off of my soapbox, and on to the question.

There is no single answer for why some people behave the way you've described. Like other communities, the black community is not monolithic, and the behaviour you've described has a lot more to do with class than with race alone. The particular black people that you've gotten this attitude from may be frustrated by their position in the world and seek to lash out or blame others, just as some poor white people are frustrated by their position and do the same thing. What is the Klu Klux Klan if not a bunch of poor frustrated white people, attempting to find a scapegoat for their individual failures? It's been my experience that you do not find the same anger or hate among educated, middle-class people of any race, in this day and age. Not to say that anyone has become color blind - everyone is still acutely aware of the past and our differences, and to some extent, the lingering effects of that past do help shape attitudes and perceptions. However, I don't think that's what's really driving what you've seen.

Thanks for your question - and don't listen to the people who try to shout you down. If you don't ask, you'll never know.

I think many times the reason that some black people act like this, especially the ones under 30, is because they feel they have been treated wrongly by people at some time. It could have been from any of the many races that we see on a day to day basis (if you live in a racially diverse neighborhood) (ever noticed that the majority of these areas are not where the average income is very high?) I have to agree with the Asian school teacher also. I don't think white people notice it or think about it, but blacks don't always have the same opportunities as whites and yes there are still people in this country that will treat you differently based on the color of your skin. It is probably more common than you think. It's not a white/black thing. It's mainly ignorance from people who don't know much about people who are different then they are. Just like you feel some blacks are mean to whites, I'm sure there are some blacks out there that wonder vice versa.

pyro26jr, it's like this: people who were born in the last 30 years were raise by people who have lived through a time when whites openly and legally oppressed, killed, and dehumanized blacks. It simply passed down throughout the generations. Some whites still discriminated based solely on skin color and taught their children to do the same. Some blacks, still unhappy with past and current conditions, pasted those feelings on to their children. There are a good number of people who are not mean to people just because they are white. The ones that get all of the attention are the angry ones with the loudest voice. They do not represent the whole race.

Believe they tried to move on, more than you think they do but this society arent giving them any chances to move one (not all of them, some really made it big now). Although this country thinks they are giving them a chance they really dont and these are the people like yourself who wish they have no rights like anyone else just because they have a darker color. I am a teacher and I am an Asian, even in school I see the inequality of fellow teachers, staff members to children with dark skin.
Put yourself in their shoes for one week and then ask another question, I bet you it will not be a question such as the one you just posted.
Dont look at these people with color, try to look at them as people, they have feelings just like you.

Some black people have been treated unjustly even 30 years back. One example is with homes. In some places, when integration became legal, Caucasians moves out to the suburbs because they didn't want black people as their neighbors.
Or maybe you're running into those whose grandparents, etc. had it tough then and haven't been able to improve much.

I know what you mean, dude. I call those black people who fit that description "habitually offended." I think it's got to do with all those black activists who make a living on spreading the idea that black people are somehow victimized on a large scale in this country. If the truth were widely accepted, those activists would need to find new jobs.

Because the liberal have fausted a victim mentality on them for so long and this society has taught too many people black and white that they are not responsible for their own lives and mistakes, and so many take it for granted that their problems must be cause be the white people if they are not responsible. And no that is not racism it's common sense and a good grasp of history.

Chances are you just live in a bad area. If the blocks too hot, Get up and leave. There's a lot of better experiences waiting for you, if you make a point of it to focus on only the good in people and in life, and try not to join the others who define their reality by their miseries.

Don't take it personally? How should I take it? Like a man?

Everybody is a racist. Black, white green. Don't worry about it. Only a racist would read racist into this. It is a fair question.... and will get many people angry anyway.

Is it OK to be 'racist' to a racist? They are people to. And lets face it, only education will change the world...a bit.
