I love it! I honestly could care less about team USA. I didn't follow any of their matches; it's all about Germany! My second team, Spain, is out, so my current second team is Portugal (mainly for C. Ronaldo). I think football (yes, I'm so obsessed I'm getting into the habit of calling it football instead of soccer) is way more interesting than American football and baseball (ew!), and though basketball used to be my favorite sport, it's been edged to second by "the beautiful sport."

It's somewhat difficult for Americans to become enthused about the World Cup because soccer/football is not as popular here as it is throughout the rest of the world.
The American sports media tries to get the American public excited about the event, but doesn't succeed as much as it would like to.
I think one of the reasons soccer/football doesn't do well in the U.S. as it does in Europe or South America is because of how the professional leagues are set up in the rest of the world.
In Europe, the professional teams generally don't have nicknames like the sports teams in U.S. do (New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Lakers). In Europe it's AC Milan, Manchester United, etc . . . These teams don't generally have a nickname like most of the teams in MLS (exceptions being REAL Salt Lake, and D.C. United, and Chivas USA - what in the world are we supposed to yell when these teams are playing, "Let's be REAL! Let's be REAL!")
Plus, it's difficult for many people to know which team is which because European teams don't necessarily have logos on their jerseys. Their jerseys have corporate sponsors logos all over the jersey with just enough room for a number and maybe the players name.

Most Americans don't think of it at all. I on the other hand, have and will follow it intently because it is one of the greatest team sporting events. I was upset they lost early because I had hoped they would play better but the only match they showed up for was v. Italy.

Americans are not so keen on watching soccer unlike baseball, NFL and NBA. I am not so much affected that USA was beaten early because they do not have the passion for the World Cup unlike the Europeans and South Americans.

Who cares about the USA? Why do they bother qualifying for the World Cup anyway? All they do is invite themselves to be humiliated...Soccer is totally not their thing...They should just stick to their own head butting "Football"...
