I prefer Fender because I like how they feel in my arms. Though I am big guy, Gibsons tend to be a little heavier too and I prefer the guitar to be lighter. Of course, I am talking about electrics. They both have great sound, so it's really just about what you want and your preference. I prefer Yamaha for acoustic.

Fender Strat with a Twin or Super if you want the grease. No pedals and 12's.
A Gibson Hollow body is okay like the 135 or 335, but the Les Paul's are heavy and seem to be made for jazzier music.
It just depends on what kind of stuff you're playing.

Fender. It works better and sounds better. I have a friend who has one. I tried out a Gibson, I don't like 'em. Seems to be that Fenders are more popular too. But they can be expensive. I have an SX Bass guitar. But I have friends.

Fender. I have the Hank Marvin signature model and it is for me, the best. I play it through a Marshall Valvestate and it sounds great on both clean and overdrive channels. I have tried Gibson but they seem heavier and slightly more cumbersome.

Judging by my husband's collection . . . Fender (10 out of 12 guitars). Wish I knew why, but ya can't argue with the collection!

i really like both! they both have their good and bad quatities i love playing lead with the strat. its so clear and crisp, but then, throwing out some good solid riffs on a les paul is pretty sweet too....... (i don't actually own one of either, but have taken a couple of test drives....) it is a matter of choice really.
i sort of went between the two and got myself an ibanez rg series. and no, i am not one of those "nu" metal heads with the seven-string....
