I had a drinking problem and I went to AA. Those people saved my life. You will find that your problem is no unique. You will find many in the group that are exactly like you. Please do not think AA is just for skid row bums. You will meet people in AA from every walk of life.
AA is free and it works for me. I have not had a drink of any kind of alcohol for 27 years. I have never been happier. I am a Mechanical Engineer with a Masters Degree in Enginering. I tell you this only so you will know that AA is for everyone that has a desire to stop drinking. That is the only requirement. A desire to stop drinking.
I wish sobriety for you.

Ok, you're sick and tired of, well, being sick and tired. Download or buy a hypnosis MP3. I am sure you know all the reasons and downsides of drinking too much, you got ten years experience. You could be an expert. You can try AA, read articles, please do. What can hypnosis could do for you is, let's say every time you have the urge to drink, somehow, magically, you forgot! Or maybe the booze doesn’t taste that great. Will you stop slam bang, maybe, or you might gradually taper off, just don’t, don’t give up. Does it work, maybe, but what do you have to loose? You have more to loose, allot more, if you don't try, try everything. Give it six weeks of listening to the CD. It took you ten years to drink heavily, what's six weeks? Surf the web, try different ones. You are talking about $8 to $20, more than you probably drink away when you're on a roll on a light night. You don't know, neither do I why you drink, some faulty programming in your subconscious mind you got to short circuit, now. Somehow I can’t imagine when the teacher asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up, you said “a drunk,” nope, maybe a fireman, policeman, astronaut. God bless, I will pray for you, seriously, just hang in there.

first if u really won't to drink u must stop that, Coz it's very bad thing n u should go to psychiatrist to help u about what u want.
2- u can replace this bad drinks with other good for Ur body n Ur health like juice .
3- u say "u have reasons for wanting to get drunk" if u have any problem u can fixed it n u can spend Ur spare time in playing something u like it,share Ur friends with Ur time.
4- finally don't be alone all time be with group that's good for u n may god help u.

In my opinion, AA is a good approach. Finding support from others is very powerful. You may want to take an inventory of all the problems your drinking has caused you. Then write a list of what you really want in life. Focus on what your really want and hopefully you will want that more than a drink. Finally, you might try praying.

If the reason is psychological, see a psychiatrist or go to a group for dealing with alcoholism.
Otherwise, try finding a different drink. Maybe there's a similar drink, but no alcohol.

My husband voluntarily went to the classes they hold for drunk drivers (he wasn't one,) and when he found out what shape his body was in, what alcohol does to the body, and how few years he probably had left, he freaked out so much that he stopped drinking. Maybe get some hard-core information on how the body uses alcohol and the long-term effects, and get yourself graded to see how bad it's gotten.

you have to stay away from alcohol altogether, and when you see it walk away. you can't even hang out with the people who drink, and eventually the compulsion will lessen, though it may never entirely go a way. it's a day by day thing, and i went through it with drugs. like me, you'll develop new interests and make new friends, and you might go through a little breakdown as you learn to cope with the emotions you've been numbing for years, but you can do it, and if you need to talk about it or need support, let me know and i'll give you my e-mail address even though i don't show it on my profile....hang in there, you'll be thankful one day of the new man you'll become!

It ain't easy. I don't drink anymore because I don't want my new liver to end up like my first one. That makes it a little easier.

Pour all your alcohol into a bottle whose neck is shaped like the shaft of a penis and the bottle cap is shaped like the head of a penis. That should keep your lips from touching it.
