As a former literature major, I'm embarrassed to say that I've forgotten what this is called but I am looking for what you call that little quoted fragment which is in many books just before the start.

I am not referring to a prologue or preface. This is typically a snippet of poetry or a famous quotation on a completely separate page prior to the beginning of a book.
