What do you consider "bad scenes?" If very strong violence falls under that, ignore Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Munich, Se7en, and ESPECIALLY those good Japanese horror flicks. haha. Much of the people who responded to this question don't seem to realize that the person asking is looking for films that are OK for kids. Pulp Fiction? Definitely not for kids! Like some others said, a lot the animated ones are good. Over the Hedge was pretty funny. As for scary/mystery... The Others and The Sixth Sense were both good. The Machinist is a great suspense film. And to add to the person earlier with the Hitchcock films, North by Northwest was good.

I'm really into foreign horror, but it is NOT usually suitable for kids to watch. (that is why we love it :P)
If you would like some good Asian horror when the kids are away, I recommend "Three Extremes" 1 and 2.
As for spookin the babies...there is a new movie out right now that looks pretty "kid good" called Monster House.

Check out the old Alfred Hitchcock movies like The Birds, Vertigo, Marnie...great thrillers without bad language or sexual content. The are classics and must sees. Enjoy.
PS...the kids (and adults) will also enjoy The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang.
