Drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep. Also for temporary relief, a cold cloth and a slice of lemon on the area will help.

Note: Dark circles under the eyes are usually caused by lack of oxygen so sleep and healthy exercise will do the trick.

Although this is often said (it is a Macrobiotic belief), let's just note that the bottom lid is the site of the beginning of the Stomach Channel in the 'bioenergetic' theory of East-Asian Traditional Healing [the pupil is the usual site of examining the condition of the Kidney].

The Stomach and its Channel are fundamental to good health. If your diet is irregular, you skip and delay meals, eat fruit or fruit juice or desserts with meals, coffee, or worry too much, you will weaken that Channels flow. Once that occurs, the tissue along that Channel will sag. Darkness in that sagging tissue is Blood Stagnation due to Qi Depletion.

Dampness, which can cause bags under the eyes for the very reason that the Stomach can become soggy due to very weak Digestion (and lack of Kidney Yang Fire in some cases), will cause large sacks under the eye, not sunken dark circles.

I would suggest the age old remedy. That is doing Kapalbhati. It is a pranayam that should be practiced every day in order to get rid of dark circles and also to get a natural glow.
1. Come to sit in a comfortable crosslegged position.

2. Take two or three deep inhales and exhales through the nose to prepare.

3. Inhale to a comfortable level, and then exhale sharply and forcefully through the nose, drawing the belly in as you exhale.

4. Let the inhale happen passively, and continue this cycle of forceful exhales and passive inhales at a fast pace, so that the belly is pumping continuously.

5. Do three rounds of thirty breaths each, coming back to deep inhales and exhales between each round.

I have done extensive research on this. Mine are hereditary. All the treatments over the counter are bogus and the plastic surgery options are ridiculously invasive. I use make up. For some of us plenty of rest, water, exercise don't make a difference. I'm waiting for technology to come up with an effective cream. Good luck.

I'm trying some cream from ROC also there are other creams that may cost $$$ like hylexin or something like that plenty of them on the market. I suggest applying them according to the label (two times day usually) I hate my circles and I am trying to get rid of them, they make me look older and tired all the time.

Try vitamin e oil, and also, look for Vita-K solutions. I searched www.drugstore.com for "under eyes", but for some reason either my computer, or Yahoo Answers won't let me copy and paste the link directly here, or in the sources. Good luck though.
