I've heard that its some kind of quantum singularity and basically the ship folds spacetime around it to move from one point to another. Anyone know?

You pretty much got the concept; the Enterprise folded space to where the ship (point A) closely met with their destination (point B). Draw a straight line on a sheet of paper, loosely fold the sheet to where the ends line up: there you go.

Inertia was a problem however, and what kept the crew on board from violently slamming into the back wall making a gooey mess were onboard "inertial dampening" devices that generated powerful protective fields within the ship to prevent this.

The ship also had NO WINDOWS; a mere force field seperated living lifeforms on board from the void of space, among Enterprise's cool whiz bang bells and whistles.......

What would you expect from a legendary Federation science/battleship cruiser, commanded by James T. Kirk?

The hamster in the warp drive console gets in its running wheel while Scotty holds a piece of cheese in front of it to make it run faster.

IF I KNEW HOW THE WARP DRIVES WORKED ON THE ENTERPISE, THEN I CERTAINLY WOULDN'T BE HERE AT THIS TIME OF DAY ANSWERING THESE QUESTIONS.
