Since the 1800s, and way prior to other indepence movements worldwide, America has clearly showed economic control over the region. Thus, why are many countries in the region as screwed despite being independent for so long? How does the America's role tie in?

(As a side note, I sound like a History of the Americas test [I love that class!])

US is an economic power that controls the business of any other country not only those in Latin America. In fact the development of other countries depends upon the amount of air or loans being provided by American controlled entities like the IMF and World Bank.
