I'm thinking about getting an apple Macbook and I was wondering if it's a good buy. I have never owned an apple before, but I'm looking for something more powerful than most PC's on the market. If you could give me some reviews I would appreciate it! Thanks

I love the design of the new MacBook. I think it has a lot to offer. As far as "more powerful than most PC's," well, that's tough to say. Technically the Core Duo is faster than most of the Intel chips that shipped up until a few months ago. The graphics subsystem, however, is not super fast. But it will drive the laptop display plus one external display.

You might want to wait a few more months before purchasing a MacBook. It's still a very new laptop, and manufacturers always run in to a few hardware bugs when they release a new model into the field.

I've included links to the ArsTechnica and Walt Mossberg / Wall St Journal MacBook reviews below.

Good luck with whatever laptop you pick.

The new Macbook is great. It is more power full then its previous models. With the new apple software Bootcamp you can run windows XP if you need to. The operating system Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 is logical, appealing to the eye, and easy to use. If it is the first time you use a Mac OS ( Macintosh Operating System) you will need to get used to it but apple has great articles on http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/ to help you switch and once you understand the basic everything will be easy. Some people say that it is hard to find some softwares but apple has worked hard to have more applications available for the Mac OS. For example you can use microsoft office, macromedia sofftwares, and many other softwares that are famous and efficient, for a compleat list of all available softwares go to http://guide.apple.com/index.lasso. It is true that Macs are not great for gaming but that is the only drawback. Every Mac comes with iLife 06 is a great bundle which contains the following softwares: iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand.
They are great for music, picture editing, movie and DVD creating, Website building, and Music creating. The Mac OS also comes with the following softwares: Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode Developer Tools. Macs are also much safer against viruses and wormes and they work well with PC's in networks.
Macs are not more powerful but they look, fell, and work better.

What are you using the laptop for?

Apples are known for being simpler to use than PCs, even with the new Intel processors, and they are fantastic for media work.

Since they've got the new Intel processors in them, you can easily compare them to PCs, and the Macbooks have some of the newest processors on the market, so they should be comparably fast.

I own a mac mini, which is similar. I love it, it is a great computer. A mac book won't be more powerful in a hardware sense, but it is more flexible in that you can boot Mac OS, Windows and Linux all on one laptop. Also, my experience with apple laptops is that they are very well designed and thought out. The Intel core series of processors inside of the Mac Book is also a great processor.

I think for the price a mac book is a great deal, and if you are a student you can get a discount.

I recently got an Apple Macbook for my high school graduation and it is the best computer I have ever had. I have had windows based computers my whole life, and I dont think that I will ever go back to them. Mac OS X is so streamlined and simple, hardly freezes, and is simply better. Do yourself a favor and buy this laptop.

Well at my school Macbook laptops are to be purchased by the student in the Design and Arts department . So i'm guessing if you are going to be doing like designing or animation the macbook will be useful but if you need like just a general computer like to type papers or internet i suggest for you to go with a pc.

Yes, its a very good buy. And by the way you can install Windows Xp on your Macbook, with the free software Boot Camp, best of all its free. But i have had my Macbook for several weeks and all i can say is wow.

You better find somethin besides an apple mac then! Why do you think apple is producing a line of putes that will run windows? Even THEN I doubt that windows software will run on it! Even their ipods suck! They have to do EVERYTHING different....and they wonder why sales are low....
