It's quite annoying when someone says i have add and then the whole room goes oh me too, oh and me! and me!. I think this is getting out of control. I know some people out there really have it, but people are just diagnosing themselves and saying they have it. Is it getting out of the control? It seems now a days everybody has a problem (supposbly) and it's all caused by your body, like being fat, gay, etc. Same thing with being irish. Apparently everyone has a little irish in them. Say that your irish in a room and i bet you everyone will say i'm irish too! even though their name is like the most non-irish name someone can have.

Dog luver lke an example of what i mean is like the commercial on tv explaining that "depression is an imbalance of hormones a and b and can not be controled". Come on the person is just sad and lonely. They try to jusitfy every illness by saying it's not you it's your dna and body. And before i hear about a lot of the illness that are caused by dna, i know a lto are but i'm just talking about ones like depression. I guess this is a whole other question but i just included it in this one.

It's just an excuse for not paying attention and it gives them a reason to say they are victims of a disorder instead of owning up to no self discipline. Boys are more likely to be labeled as ADD or ADHD usually from some liberally educated teacher who can't deal with boys. Boys are more rambunctious then girls and have a harder time staying focused without some discipline. There was no such thing as ADD or ADHD when I when to school. And don't blame TV . Blame Parents who don't want or don't know how to control their kids. Discipline will cure all of this but if you spank your kids now they say you abusive. Bullcrap to that. How many kids werer gang members or criminals in the 60's Very few and that's because their parents kept track of what their kids were doing and punished them for mis behavior. Sorry for being long winded but this have irked me for years. And no I am not that old I am 50 and have lived to see this crap fausted on our kids during the last 15 to 20 yrs and it's crap of the stinkiest kind. Kids don't need to be on drugs they need to be kids.

This is a critical diagnosis, but it's also one that is thrown about all the time when someone can't be controlled in societal situations. If the medical profession had it's way either no one would be diagnosed these or everyone would. It's becoming a throw-a-way diagnoses when nothing else comes up (like the fact that the person is a brat or a sociopath). People who jump up and yell "me, too" are usually jealous of the first person to say it and are looking for attention, too. Just ignore it. If someone is truly either of these they'll be on medication and monitored by a doctor and psychologist--there is proof if they really have it.

I was diagnosed with it as a kid, but either I was misdiagnosed or I've grown out of a lot of the symptoms. I took myself off meds as soon as I was old enough too. I do have trouble concentrating sometimes, yeah, but eventually I get around it. I think it's good that it's being destigmatized cause I had a lot of trouble with that. But now the hyperness, impulsitivity, and general craziness, as long as I keep ti all under check, are part of what makes me me and I honestly wouldn't change myself.

i believe that a lot of people out there are mis diagnosing themselves with a mental issue simply because they want something to use as a crutch so they can make excuses as to why they can't do certain things. A lot of kids are dignosed as well, probably just so their parents can keep them drugged up instead of having to deal with a hyper kid. And as for being gay, i don't think everybody is claiming to be gay, a lot of our society still thinks its wrong and want to persecute everyone who claims to be anything but straight.

ADD & ADHD have become the "diagnosis du jour," lately.
Rather like "bipolar." (Formerly known as "manic-depressive.")
A few years ago it was "Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder."
Before that it was "Multiple Personality Disorder." (Now known as "Dissociative Disorder").
Before that, it was known as "having it rough," and some people could deal with it, and some couldn't.
Serious emotional illness ought to be respected, and treated. It is a real problem.
Everyone who is having problems does not need a fashionable label, or to be over-medicated.

Two words: Pharmetcutical profits. In their view, EVERBODY has ADD or ADHD, which is TDB for us, and ASAP we need to pick up their expensive meds ASAP on the PDQ or we all will be SOL.
But all isn't at a total loss: Find a Irish girl who is AC/DC and I'd say you're one lucky SOB.

These are legitimate disorders, but I think a lot of people use them as an excuse for not succeding.
Hard work and perseverence will usually overcome this.
