I jus had a baby was 8days overdue & by the time he was born he was 9lb 9oz so as i'm sure you can imagine we were desperate to start off labour.

I had a sweep from the midwife where they try to stimulate the cervix into opening . That brought on mild contractions but i had a bath and they went (remember if contractions are only mild then a warm bath will usually make them go away so dont do that if they do start!!).
We tried sex, curry, pretty much everything and nothing seemed to work. Eventually it was triggered off by eating jalapeno peppers (not intentionally, we just had some with our salad. It may have been a coincidence but they say hot stuff works. We had the salad at 10pm and i was in labour by half 3 in the morning.

Have a warm bath with some clary sage essential oil.

Do not add the oil neat, take half an egg cup of almond or olive oil, and then add 5 drops of clary sage. Pour it in the bath once the water has stopped running and is still. Do not add other bubble baths etc.
If you don't like the smell much you can add 4 drops lavendar oil to it - this also helps you relax.
You can get clary sage oil from the internet, chemists etc.

It will definetely work. I did it and my daughter was born fine after a 3 hour labour. I wish I had known when I had my sons first as they took 5 days after being induced etc!

You can bet your **** that a man made up the sex tip right?

I've heard that raspberry leaf tea is a good one to try, gentle swimming or walking and a spicy curry. Also, a good reflexologist that specialises in pregnant women can also help to start off contraction by concentrating in the uterus area.

My mother swore by caster oil, but I think I'd rather be medically induced!!!!

Try the Raspberry tea and the foot massage, if neither works, at least you'll feel cleansed and that you're walking on air for a few hours!!!

Good luck with the birth!

At two weeks over, my midwife told me to have lots of gentle sex, a spicy curry and do the house work. Particularly scrubbing floors.

I have heard that a hot bath can break your waters, but this can cause distress, as baby can get too hot, and if you're like me your waters break but labour doesn't start.

I've heard that eating hot curry can start labour off, I have read a few articles about it in magazines but have no idea whether it worked or was an old wives tale. Worth a go though!!!

i cant help with my 1st i was in labour for three and a half days, i was told your water breaks it feels like you wet yourself, well mine didnt break, and i thought for those three and a half days i was constipated but then i told my hubby something was wrong as i was unable to pass my bowels. so i go to the hospital where they informed me i had been in labour all that time, then they gave me lots of drugs, and broke my waters to help with the labour. that didnt feel like wetting myself that felt like i was holding a dam and the walls broke it was awful.i had problems as i didnt open down there for the baby to come out so after 5 hours and 8 different drugs, they told me that they had to operate and do a c-section.dont have an epidural ask for a spinal block if required. on my 2nd pregnancy i had known that i was unable to open down there so i booked in for a c-section 5 days before the due date. really that was my experience yours may not happen the same way and i hope that it doesnt but you never know what to expect. i wish you all the best on your knew found joy and hope that it all goes well. good luck...

Lots of sex, and LONG walks. I went into labour exactly 12 hours before i was meant to be induced, so i think may be the fear and excitement may have triggered it in the end!!!

I tried a curry on my due date but that didnt work. I was so annoyed that two days later my husband ran me a hot bath, I had a nice soak, got out and put the simpsons on then half an hour later I was having contractions.

Sex wasnt one for me but I would reccomend a hot bath

If this question is urgent perhaps you should call your doctor or nearest health professional as they may have drugs or better advice.

Or maybe try something like listening to music; The Cure or Tori Amos would be my suggestion with a nice fruit tea.
