Pigs are smarter than dogs. And no, they aren't filthy...they just like to roll in the mud to keep cool. I'd like to point out that dogs play in dirt, too. It would seem that pigs are just livestock, but then again, some countries in Asia also eat dog meat.

So why not a pet pig?

Don't get me wrong, I have two dogs and love them to death...just wondering...

My daughter had a pot bellied pig. She came indoors to sleep in her crate at night. She was great in her crate, but wanted out at 9 am sharp... But, as she grew, she became more and more stubborn. She wanted what she wanted, and didn't take 'no' for an answer. Soon, she became very destructive...
It seems that pigs don''t have the driving desire to please, as most dogs do..and they have no inhibitions, to keep them behaving nicely.
Smidget liked to ride in the car, and went many places with us, until she got too heavy to lift herself in and out of the car.
Pigs are very smart..but there are reasons that dogs are man's best Friend.
We ended up with more pigs, as my daughter adopted 2 more older pigs.... they were great fun, but destroyed all of our landscaping, and tore down fencing...they fought the dgos over the dog food..lol...they just tore up the nice kennel fencing to get to the dog food.

Because local laws often prohibit pigs along with other livestock in towns and cities. Even for pot bellied pigs. Pigs are very clean animals and they are very smart. They don't have sweat glands so they roll in mud or lay in shallow water to keep cool.

I have 2 pigs and I LOVE them!!! I also love dogs and ferrets...I have 1 dog and 2 ferrets. Pigs are a lot cleaner than dogs. They use a litter box when inside. They are also easier to train than dogs.

Unfortunately, you have to live in an area zoned for them. It does make moving difficult.

I would like a pig, but they are DESTRUCTIVE. I know a couple who had a miniature potbelly and it ate a hole in the couch and chewed on drywall. I guess you could train it not to do that, though.
I heard they can get very protective, too, which is both good and bad. You don't want your pig biting people.

In most places they are considered live stock. If you had one in an apartment and it got angry and squealed you would have a angry neighbor. In the city they are extremely hard on landscape and they are real fence testers. They are social animals so they do require attention. If they get bored they are destructive. Chew and knock done the fence, bully the dogs and make themselves at home.

They get really big. But i heard there is a new breed of pigs that stay small their whole lives - i would love one as a pet.

Because people stereotype pigs as being filthy animals and as farm animals and not pets.

pigs are not kept as pets for the masses because people dont always have the room to have a mud pit for them.. and they arent as cute and cuddly as a pup
