it seems as though bluffmike is the only one that understood your question.........I get it too............but sadly, the responses you may have been hoping for probably wont happen.........I think you're trying to get homophobes to consider their backward thinking and thats not going to happen.....they have closed minds and will not look at the other side of the coin.........but good try.......its all we can do........I've tried asking bigots to see the world backward........what if heterosexuality was considered wrong in the bible? what if they had to 'pretend' to love the opposite sex for fear of retaliation? how would they feel? sometimes you see a glimmer of understanding on their part but not often........they cant get past the sex part to consider it....

Homosexuality is not a choice. Neither is it a hormonal imbalance. It's a sexual variation just like any other that can be explained by natural variations either in genetics or other prenatal conditions.

Some people do choose to experiment with their sexuality, but I would not say that these people are inherently gay or lesbian; that's when they 'choose', however these people are almost certainly not the same ones who are ending their own lives.

When I first accepted that I was gay after years of a) not realising, b) repressing feelings, c) denying the truth, d) trying to change, I was very, very unhappy and thought a number of times about taking my life.

I realised, however, that I only feel bad because of what other people have said and how society views homosexuality. I came to think that if I live my life without harming anyone else, then whose business is it anyway?

Living your life by other people's standards is not an optimal way of living, especially if you belong to a minority.

It is sad that society has to be so blind to the truth about being gay. It is not a choice. The behaviour is, but not the orientation, yet so many would dictate otherwise. If an individual does not live within his orientation he/she will not be very happy in life. This in turn causes a great deal of confusion especially in the young people, placing such pressure on them that sometimes they feel overwhelmed and determine that suicide may be the only way out for them. This is tragic.

In a sense gay people do make a choice - whether he choose to accept gay lifestyle or he can choose not to. There is always a choice but people choose to be gay because that who he is and he is born that way. So he can't change how he feels but he can definitely choose not to live as gay but which is hard to do. Gay people commit suicide because they can't choose not to be gay and live lies. But commit suicide will never be the answer. Hopefully in the future things change for the better for them.

I don't think anyone chooses to be gay I've always believed at conception the male female seed got mixed up and you came out a male or female but your mind and heart think as the opposite sex? Maybe especially teens commit or try to commit suicide because they are so mixed up about their sexuality and right and Wrong they can't live with their parents or friends finding out it is truly sad that they can't just feel accepted but there goes today's society

Some gay people do not have a choice. They are born with more hormones that should not be there in a normal man or female. They do not want to be the way they are that is why they commit suicide.

I guess you're answering your own question really! However in light of what you are saying sexuality does not have to be a burden. It should be a part of you and celebrated. Not necessarily in a 'in your face, let's antagonise everyone.' sort of way, but in a way that at the very least can give you peace of mind and make you realise there is nothing wrong with the way you feel and who you are. Therefore choice over nature doesn't matter. It's really about your own self acceptance.

First of all, being gay IS NOT a choice. Why would one CHOOSE to be gay knowing full good and well that society is going to condemn and harass them? Why would one choose to be something that could get them killed? Why one choose to be something that will make others be prejudiced towards them?

How do you know it is a choice. You must have chosen to be gay yourself to make such a comment. The only choice made by gay folk is the choice to accept themselves amid the climate of idiocy so prevalent in your society.

If you want to expect more anti-homosexual responses...post this answer in 'singles & dating' or in 'religion & spirituality'...I'm sure you'll get as you desire!
Otherwise, just shut the f**k up about that!
Now listen here child...teens that are caught in the predicament as mentioned by you-are confused because society has leaned the opposite way in regards to his/her lifestyle-the pressure may have been over bearing...one may have not been as mentally tough as you and others! Also, there may have been a few more excruciating events and/or mind-altering occurences which may have taken place!
You,however,as well as alot of others in your situation-are more adapt with dealing with negativity and societies rejections...kudos to you and the rest of us that say "to hell with society if they don't like it!"
BTW,I'm as straight as an unbendable nail!!!!!!!!!!!
