Been building systems for 15 years now and I will take AMD over Intel ANY day! The prices are cheaper to begin with and I havent seen any difference in their ability to perform with ANY software nor have I had an AMD failure!

Actually, if you are looking for a dual core processor right now, you can't beat the deal that Intel is offering right now. Intel has finally bowed to the dual core performance dominance amd has enjoyed since we have entered into this little stint of technology. Because they can't compete performance wise, Intel is practically giving away their dual core netspeed architecturally based processor. they may not keep up with AMD at clock speeds, but they overclock like the dickens. I have personally always been an AMD man. My personal machine is currently running on a D930. I swore I would never build on Intel, but if you do a little research you just won't be able to pass up the bang for the buck that intel is offering. It's funny how the roles have reversed. It used to be that intel was the performance king, and AMD gave you the best deal. Now it is the exact opposite. AMD is setting on top of the mountain. They only way that intel can sell processors in bulk is to sell them dirt cheap. You can't beat the intel line if you work with video a lot. I always liked AMD cause they have alwasy been the underdog. AMD is not an underdog anymore. The company that almost went belly up just before the launch of the orginal Slot A Athlon has not built several fab plants all over the globe. They are financially setting pretty and getting a nice chunk of the business market, which is truely where the profit is. I will always be greatful to AMD, but I think that the playing level has evened up enough that these days, you just need to look at which line of processors will make your investment more effective. You should go for the bang for the buck for the moment, and despite what the people before me have told you, the price king these days is intell. You can get an intel dual core processor way cheaper than even the slowest AMD dual core. My intel chip handles gaming very well. It shreds video compression/conversion compared to any AMD chip I have ever owned. You should do a little resear when you are ready to buy. If you are going to buy now, you can beat the deal Intel is offering. The performance shreds, despite the fact AMD hold the advantage in gaming. Intel does many things at or above the level lf the AMD chips. Remember though, if it wasn't for AMD coming in to the market, if Intel was the only game in town like they were for so many years, Intel would be still selling us 200mhz processors for $3500 a piece.

I prefer AMD for desktop and Intel for laptop/notebook. AMD is usually cheaper and more power efficient on a desktop machine, but the intel chips can't be beat in notebook computers.

Intel's processors are designed in a structure more strictly and better for interger arithmetic, while AMD's product is better for decimal arithmetic, thus it is good for games and dealing with pictures.I prefer AMD's product especially Sempron.

Well, it depends what do you want to do with your computer. It's different for everyone
For exemple, if you're a gamer you're better with AMD. On the other hand, I heard intel is better for those who make videos.
AMD also spends less energy...which is a big plus.

both are solid but if you're looking for double threaded processors go with the amd slighty more sophisticated but intel's are better for parralel processing

I like Intel better beacuse they are more powerful, and consume less power. AMD is a little less in terms of cost, but there chip has older tecnology, and consume way more power.
