neon hearts, is probably his way of saying that our emotions have become artificial/fake. this stands in high contrast with the metaphor that compares city lights with fireflies which are a part of nature. we've wandered of from the natural/normal/ethical/moral way. so i agree with the guy with capitalism in his message. if you don't know already Bono disagrees in many ways with the manner in which the USA finds appropriate to "help" other countries.
