Any one who can wear pajamas at their place of work, and be idolized by the public, should be happy to do so at any price.
But, the typical fan has lost sight of the game--as they blame the players and owners for. Professional sports is nothing more than an entertainment industry anymore.
We go because we want to be entertained, no matter what the price.

Major League Baseball simply needs a salary cap. This would give small markets a chance to compete with the bigger markets. Cities such as Milwaukee, Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh can then compete with the likes of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago etc. Major League Baseball is out on an island of it's own by not having a salary cap. The other 3 major sports in the USA: NFL Football, NBA Basketball, and NHL Hockey all have salary caps. In my opinion, Major League Baseball has been going in a bad direction since the 1994 strike. I still watch and listen to the games and keep up, as I am a big fan, but it would be nice if there was a salary cap to keep salaries from being outrageous, and give all the teams a chance.

Because we love sports. We have since we were younger, and as a force of habit, keep watching the same sports over and over. We spend money on the latest team merchandise year after year, even though we're not getting any return on our investment, just to see our team win and wear their colors while they're doing it. We're as much to blame for buying into all the corporate crap. How do you think they get the money to spend on Alex Rodriguez?
I don't hate A-Rod for making all that money. Why? Because someone's willing to pay that much money for him to play! Do I think it's too much? Absolutely! But if he can get paid $25 million a year from some team's owner, more power to him. But you also have to take into account that they get paid so much money because of the risks they take on the field. For instance, take Hideki Matsui and the injury that possibly ended his season. He had to have corrective surgery and may never be the same after that play. One bad play and that's it-their career could be over and done. Then what? They get paid to stay in peak physical condition and to produce, plain and simple, and if for whatever reason they can't do what's expected of them, it's not likely they're gonna be on the payroll much longer.

I don't hate pro athletes and u don't either. You're just jealous. They work harder than you and I work, that's for darn sure! And pro salaries won't stop being huge just because we stop buying tickets. If I'm a billionaire and I want to pay someone 25 million a year to entertain me, it's my choice! That's what sports is: entertainment. (Do you know how much money George Steinbrenner has?!?!?!) Are you going to stop going to movies, too, because you don't want to see movie stars getting paid $20 mill per film?

You are crazy. You dont realize how much work these people put in to what they do. How they have rigorous training regimens and are always traveling often with little sleep. Im sure they work just as hard as you and everyone else out there. If you think its so easy why dont you go try out for your local minor league team and work your way up to the pros. Hope to see you going through the motions and making loads of cash soon!

I think they deserve the money because people pay to go see them, just as people pay a lot to see famous actors. They deserve the money too. I don't hate pro athletes, except asso!es like Barry Bonds and Terrell Owens.

U are Really something.Envious,Jealous and a penny pincher.People pay to see excellence ,if possible!No-one complains about movie stars salaries, because they are entertained and most people do not have acting skills.but most people can hit catch ,and throw a ball.Pro sports are also entertainment..But U will never be as skilled or blessed as Barry bonds or Terry Bradshaw,Babe Ruth or Arod! I am an ex semi pro baseball player.I have known many major league players. They are ordinary men, with extraordinary skills. My hitting coach was one of these millionaire players. He is now deceased ,and IS in the Hall of Fame.a wonderful ,funny, selfless man.who explained excellence in baseball.and thought that i could have played major league ball.but i had blown my knee and was too old {31} then,to have a chance. to try.I remember he surprised me by taking me to an informal batting practice, with 3 teammates of his..He himself was lefty with nearly 500 home runs. I am also lefty. That day at a public cage ,with a crowd around, waiting for autographs. He forced me to hit with and act like major leaguer.I surprised myself, and the other Pros by hitting more than 10 balls 400ft+.He was proud of me,his student. The other pros ,one who last year managed a playoff team, treated me as freind.and asked why i had not played ball.Jerks like u,are the reason. I had a talent, but people like u talked me out of pursueing it,cause they don't see baseball as a hardwork job. Those guys Break their butts, training playing more than 200 games a year,Practice and real games.Put up with jerks like u complaining,Pain and hassle, loss of privacy. And can lose there health and carreers in one split second.Just trying to be great ,one game at a time.U and others pay cause U know deep in your heart,U could never, have there skills or determination. Many men can throw a ball 95 mph,but few can do it every inning without walks. Many men can hit a slow fastball 400 ft..But few can pull a 96 mph fastball ,over the wall after a changeup.,or curve. And do it for years! That is why people watch!that is excellence!Only hard work ,and great drive can give this skill a chance to be perfected! When I finally started playing semi pro{42},against AAA and many other young ex pros, mostly 27-35.I saw those who had skill but not enuff.I myself once hit a 95 mph ball 592 measured feet.{I am 6"3}.BUT it was not like that day in batting practice.i think i was 50 when i hit that bomb.off a 28 year old ex Yankee prospect. That day i thought back to my teacher. And thanked him for taking his time to show me simple things.Like U must swing your bat at least 150 times a day, just to get bat speed..Never be scared of a pitcher.Your bat and bat speed are stronger than his arm and faster than his fastest ball.Lastly i thanked those other player that day,for allowing me for 20 minutes to be a major leaguer,in all ways. Those guys told the crowd {about 75 folks} That I was gonna play the next year.So i had to sign autographs for half hour, with those great ,and funny men.{they had seen my surgery scars.}Knew that i could never play at their level. But i Hit at their level that one day. They knew that also. One of them was a most valueable player the year before. I have lived many years ,since that day.Looked at my right knee a million times. And know that only special men ,can play that tough game, with true skill. And only idiots would pay to see somrthing they themseves could do.Most fans have NEVER worked so hard ,or have faced a true Professional Balplayer. So like U,they are jealous and upset.Even Babe Ruth The greatest player of all,had to listen to boos, and complaints about his paycheck. If u really know baseball .U would find out a very little known fagt.Babe Ruth was fast.He once stole 30 bases in a year. But was told by manager to ,not steal, cause his home run bat ,was more important than a possible injury. They deserve every cent!
