Who is 'our' government? The US? The US has been involved with Darfur. Colin Powell talked about Sudan while he was Secretary of State. Why didn't London do anything? Spain? Mexico? Germany? Why does the US have to initiate everything.

Darfur has no oil (to my knowledge), so the government doesn't see any profit in really helping the people of Darfur. It will send just a little here or there to appease the media.

Some idiot on here will say..."but we send food to Africa all the time"... But really, Just look at the amount of money and number of lives spent on the current war....A fraction of that could really help Darfur.

Better question. What should our government do to help Darfur?

If we send in our troops to stop the killing and raping there will be people bitching saying we're "invading" another country.

If we send them money/food it will more than likely be taken by the ones doing the killing and raping and the people that really need it will still be starving and dying of diseases

So again, What can we do?

Yes, we are avoiding more conflict since we're pretty much up to our ears already. How many wars can we fight at one time? We have Iran and North Korea at our necks as well as Iraq and other Arab nations.

We are not the only country in existence. The UN should be involved in getting proper help for Darfur.

Actually many humanitarian organizations inside the US are accepting donations from us to help in any way possible. If you can, please check out Amnesty USA to offer.

Because there is no benefit to the States (and other governments) at all. There is no resources, no passageways to anywhere special, nothing. Just poor people getting slaughtered. Sad, but true.

Contact the UN. Maybe they can put down the bribes long enough to do their job?
