Fortune tellers rely on clues that are given by the mark. I use the word “mark” because the whole thing is a scam. They are trained to look for clues, a wedding ring for example. Then they play off of that basing their next angle on the mark’s response. They also use fishing tactics such as “I’m getting something that involves the letter M. Do you know someone who’s name starts with the letter M?” If the mark says “no” then the fortune teller corrects themselves and picks a similar letter, like N. The Mark will usually volunteer information regarding someone whom they know that has a name which starts with the suggested letter. “Oh, my Aunt Mary! She died five years ago!” Then the fortune teller will play off of that by asking about a piece of jewelry, because everyone leaves jewelry behind.

The more information that the mark gives, the more accurate the fortune teller will appear to be. It’s all just smoke and mirrors using a combination of common sense human behavior and the ability to read body language (or reactions) in the response to questions.

Fortune tellers create an illusion of psychic skill. Hey: it beats hooking, right? Psychics generally don't ply their skills for profit; some actually allow their skill to guide them to someone for yet discovered reasons.

True psychics are physically worn out due to their gifts, as they wrestle it and their personal lives each day. Fortune tellers just live from days profit to next day's profit.

Fortune tellers are BS artists. They are particularly evil because they give false hope to innocent, desperate people. Not one has ever been able to scientifically reproduce or prove any sort of psychic powers.
You should give a wide berth to such scammers and reprobates.

There truly is a spiritual undercurrent to life. Premonitions and occurences do happen for real, usually around deaths, times of great crisis, and sometimes in dreams. I just wouldn't put too much stock into some stranger being able to produce genuine psychic phenomenon at will for cash.

Wouldn't they have just played the lottery, caught Bin Laden, and evacuated the Twin Towers if they could really see the future? C'mon, it's all an act. Haven't been able to prove it one ounce in the last hundred years. But I guess they saw that coming....

Some can some of the time.

Most tell you what you want to hear and receive your money for it. Use it as entertainment, with an open mind to be surprised.
