A mama and papa pidgeon had a family on our balcony...in a storage box!
I thought the baby was UGLY by baby bird standards....one of the ugliest I ever saw. He was very large compared to all other types of peeps I've seen...as big or bigger than the size of an adult sparrow. He didn't look like a pidgeon at all until 3 weeks or so. Why do you ask I wonder...

Used to breed quite a number, pink naked flesh when hatched, then in a few days seems to look plummer than their parents, and fluffy feathers grow from wings first.
Chicks varies in size in the beginning but catches up when they are fully feathered.
Never ending hunger whenever their parents approach.
You'll be astounded by the speed of their growth, if you monitor these lovely chicks daily.

I used to know a guy who raised them on his farm. They hatched and got feathers like any other bird. I didn't see anything different about them. I guess in the city, you don't really see their babies much come to think of it.

We used to have them on the farm, breeding them. Just like any normal bird. Pink with no feathers when it hatches, then it gets the really soft feathers like down, and then normal feathers.
