To make your computer perform faster is by taking the time and (1) going through all your files and deleting the ones you don't need or saving them to external devices (i.e., CD-Rs or CD-RW, DVDs, external hard drives, flash drives, etc.);
(2) do the same to unwanted, unused computer programs (like that typing program you never use, etc.). Go to START (or) MY COMPUTER ==>Control Panel ==> Add or Remove Program and uninstall all those programs you never use;
(3) then run a scan disk;
(4) run virus and anti-spyware software; and finally
(5) run the defragger.

After you do this, there are more things you can do. In your Internet Explorer, make it so that zero (0) days of history are saved on your memory, and delete all your temp files every day.

Lastly, DO ALL OF THIS AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH.

If this doesn't help, installing more memory should do the trick. If you have never done it before, go to a store like Best Buy or Circuit City, CompUSA, etc. and get them to help or look it up online. The actual memory stick is pretty inexpensive.

Ram, Cpu, Motherboard... I a minimum of 1GB these days of ram... and I would make sure that you have a decent enough CPU, no "celeron d" or anything... as far as software goes you could look into a program called "tune up utilities". I was skeptical of this at first but after using it for a while I was really impressed. You can clean out your registry and do a registry defrag and what not. Also! Check for spyware on your computer. Get a program called Spybot Search and Destroy. Its the best program I have come across to get rid of it...

good luck

Tuneup utilites 2006,

It will tweak windows for you and you will see much faster speed from your computer. Get diskeeper pro and defrag, it is much faster than the defrag that comes with windows, and you can set it to defrag for you so you want have to worry about it any longer.

I am assuming you are using WindowsXP.

You can do the following :
* free up atleast 2GB space on your C: drive. Windows uses swap space - if that is running low - it will be slow.
* Defrag the hard disk ( may work/may not work)
* Remove any freeware/shareware
* Remove anti-viruses ( they really make your comp slow - but you have the risk of getting lots of viruses).
* Remove any servers you may have installed ( IIS etc).
* Upgrade the RAM
* Install linux. I can suggest Ubuntu : http://www.ubuntu.com

have fun.
