Handsome is as handsome does. Or beautiful is as beautiful does. Beautiful people who are horrible are less beautiful. Or they need a lot of PR to cover the fact that they are horrible. They might fool you for a while, but eventually, their looks will be trumped by their actions (unless you are a fool and only respond to outside appearances.)
Beauty is a visual cue, usually based on symmetry of a person's features. But it's for attraction, not for determining how virtuous a person is. You don't become more symmetrical if you lead a better life. There is no virtue in looks--virtue is based on how good your morals are and how well you act in an unfair world. Beauty only gets you so far, but if you don't have the goods to act decently, then you aren't virtuous.
I don't think there are ideal presidential candidates, because politics run on more than just who is the best candidate. Bush wasn't the best candidate, but he won twice, so maybe he was. Urk. But if a supermodel were smart and good at politics and didn't have too many modeling engagements, she might be a good candidate.

A virtue as a moral quality - no.
A virtue as an advantage or benefit - yes, a great advantage.
You agree with it or not, beautiful people are treated better, there were scientific studies showing that people attribute positive qualities to an attractive person. Have you ever showed off/ given a special treatment to somebody who you think is beautiful? I have.
A personal bit here: I thought that I was immune for sole physical beauty until I went snowboarding to France. This incredible hunk came over (it turned out later a snowboarding world champion so imagine his body) and my nature surprised me together with my clothes which fall off me an instant. And they all knew what they were doing - this beautiful bodies don't have to be only for a display ;)
What strikes me- there is a general opinion that physical beauty is just luck and internal beauty something you can work on and change. Well, do you know un ugly duckling turning into a swan? Someone you didn't recognize because he/she looks amazing now?
And do you know any assholes who turned into an angel?
How much time do you think people generally spend grooming their bodies and how long a day they work to improve their personality?
Actually - you had a point man - supermodels should be presidents!
I hope you aren't too attached to George W. Bush and I won't hurt your feelings but Cindy Crawford couldn't do more harm than him. And I just can see other presidents drooling over Cindy, competing with each other to do her favors and later banging their heads on the palaces walls and cursing their sinful nature..

I don't believe that supermodels would be good presidential candidates. One reason is that for their speeches most men would be staring at the breast implants rather than listening to her words. They would forget the laws passed by the female president because they would be to busy looking at her long legs. I am sure someone wouldn't mind if she started WW3 if she would just bend over a little bit more for better few of her butt. I believe that beauty is not the only virtue required. It is only skin deep, because within years the hair falls out and the breasts sag and the hips widen. Personality and respect is what should be valued most.
Sometimes I think the only reason that Bush made into office is because of his father and his 4yrs in office and probably because the people may not have had any better options to make a better decision. I am sure if Orlando Bloom were to run for president he would have won the presidental election over Bush.

No, beauty is not a virtue, and super models can``t run a country because they have no political ambition.
PS:I think Bush lookes kind of like a troll.

ok: George Bush does look like a troll!!!
Beauty isn`t a virtue: it`s pure luck. To be beautiful on the inside that`s the real virtue

Are super-models ideal presidential candidates? Yeah, sure. And the Fashion Channel would be replacing CNN, FOX and the other news channels. And the VP would be chosen from fashion designers, and the Secretary of State from perfume manufacturers.

"Beauty is only skin deep. But ugly goes straight to the bone!" according to my father. Anyone can be pretty on the outside. All you have to do is afford the surgery. But beauty, true beauty, the kind that comes from the inside, takes years of hard work. It's a pity that much of the world has forgotten this.

Personality over-rules looks in many, but not all cases. There have been many times where I've met guys that aren't that attractive, but then once I got to know them, they became attractive because of their personality. Personality and character are much more of a virtue than beauty.
