An ECU, (engine control unit,) is what is sometimes referred to as the "brain" Depending on the vehicle, it can be either under the dash, behind the passenger side kick panel, or even on the fender well inside the engine compartment. It controls how your vehicle runs depending on how the sensors are reading, and how far your foot is pressing down on the pedal. These days, you only tell your computer how fast or quick you want to go and the ECU takes care of doing the most efficiently.
