You are definitely not alone on this one. I live in an area that is fairly well known for its aerospace and defense industry. While having lunch at a restaurant one day, I overheard a conversation among two computer scientists. One was lamenting having to sit in front of a computer screen all day trying to spot errors in programming code. He said, "I should write a novel, I can do a better job than a lot of those guys." He also said that he wished he could open a t-shirt factory, or just get a job driving a truck across the country and leave his old life behind.
Everyone feels like this at various times throughout their lives. There is always something bubbling underneath the surface that you can almost put your finger on, but not quite. There is always that feeling of "something missing". Books are written about it. Songs are written about it. Movies, plays, operas. It is one of the facts of life. Everyone searches for meaning, no matter what their lot in life is. But there is something good about it. It makes you strive to be a better person. It keeps you searching. You must think of it as a challenge and an opportunity. I believe that a person has three things that must be taken into consideration in order to have a better sense of completeness: Mind, Body, and Spirit. Always make sure that you are doing something to feed all three of these aspects of your self. But honestly, I don't believe that the feeling ever totally goes away. In a way, it seems like it's not supposed to. I hope this helps.

If you are feeling that life is sort of shallow, or that it's almost "useless" that you're here, then I would suggest God. Without God, I would say the world tends to be rather pointless, and the only way to escape that is to pretend you can make a point with your life, but then you think that you're one person in 10,000 years and 6.5 billion people and oh does it just feel comforting to think that no sparrow goes unprovided for, if you catch my drift. By the way, having love and a successful career is awesome! You have some things to be happy about certainly! :)

Are you sure you are really in love and happy with your career choice? Sounds to me like you are a searcher. When someone is a searcher they have to keep looking for more than what they have in front of them. Searching isn't the problem though, how much fun you're having on the journey is. Good luck!

Something you truly love to do that fulfills your soul on the deepest level. For example, I am an artist, (check out what I mean at www.giusepperussottoart.com) and without art I would feel void, regardless of how much money I had or how many hot girls I've slept with.

Being in love and having a successful career doesn`t mean you feel fulfilled... Are you sure you are working in something you love doing?

A land, a home, a sense of belonging, a country, a people, a nation, an identity, an escape, a horizon, a history, a culture, a planet, peace of mind-- oh wait! those are my worries. They must not apply to you! Please forgive my stupid imposition. I'm sure you're only missing one thing.

Happinness. You have nothing without it. You will forever chase bigger and better things in your life, but if you are not happy, you will never lose that "something is missing" feeling.
If you are truely happy in life, you won;t feel like you need anything else...

Maybe a child? Seeing your own child grow is truly amazing. It puts things into perspective. Or maybe you're just one of those people who will always find something wrong, even if nothing is.

I am not big on religion, but maybe some spirituality is missing, or maybe a relaxation type of interest or hobby.
