This can mean several things, so I'll cover the two most common ones...
1. The person on the left lane ALWAYS has courtesy. If you are on an even numbered lane, you wait until that person has bowled before you deliver your shot.
2. It also means using appropriate "language", especially when you consider there can be a lot of kids in a bowling alley who don't need to learn those words yet. Finally, it means being a good sport and not rubbing things in if you are winning.

You wait until the person in the lane finishes bowling...so that the balls don't get stuck coming back. Also, put your bowling balls away after you're done with your lane. Return your shoes, of course, and as always, throw away your trash. It's unbelievable how many people just leave their drinks and napkins laying around. Bleh.

Don't step up to throw the ball if someone on either side is about to step up. Wait for them to throw and then step up. Otherwise you throw off their delivery.
