You can be as successful as you wish. It all depends on you. If you don't have much money to start with, get a job. Or get two jobs. Then invest your money. Use it to start your own business, or to buy real estate. Build up from there.
The only limits are the ones you put on yourself, so get out there and get busy.
Good luck!
PS: Did you read the recent news story about the man who started with a red paper clip and in the course of one year, traded up to a house? True story, and very interesting commentary on our society!

It's not difficult to make a success of yourself in the US. In fact, it is much easier to do so than it is in most other parts of the world. You must merely do the things that all successful people do: go to school and learn all you can, work hard, save your money, and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way.
Your honesty and industriousness are more well rewarded in the USA than almost anywhere else.
The USA has always welcomed legal immigrants from anywhere in the world who wish to live the American dream. If you're already here, welcome to the USA!

Doesn't seem very possible anymore because everything went global and the computers make everything accessible.
So I believe the same opportunities can be found practically anywhere in these times.
All you need is a computer and the right connections.
May sound easy, but the right connections could be difficult to make.

sandislandtim is correct.
But it seems to me that it is important to do this at a young age in order to enjoy your success.
To come to America at 40 and do all of that, then be successful at 60 is ok, but not nearly as fun (in my opinion) as starting at 20, becoming independent at 30-35 and being financially free enough to enjoy life.
Sometimes you only get one shot.
