Just to clarify...what I mean is I have noticed that very very few people get as excited as I do when I see a Hawk or a Wildflower I havent seen before and I have to find out about it and I mean I have to find out EVERYTHING about it. I often point out things like neat looking bugs to someone near and all I get is oh yeah anyway my boyfriend and I....etc, etc. Why is it that no one questions anymore? Why is it that only very few people are interested in the world around them and learning everything they can about it? I am interested in all your opinions on this.......

Wow great answers everyone! I hardly know which one is the best. Just to clarify a little I live in a small town in Northern Canada with nature all around me a 10 minute walk and I am in the wilderness, bears, wolves, coyotes, wilflowers everywhere...I have at least 10 species of wildflowers just growing in my backyard. Nevertheless most people in my area dont really care about nature they complain about birds nesting in thier eaves, bears eating thier garbage, wildflowers are "dirty weeds" and few stop to say wow I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many unique and adaptive creatures.... instead its kill the cormorants, shoot the bears, cut all the trees down and dont forget to persecute the big bad wolf in its last refuges....I know living in a large city you forget about nature but here we are completely surrounded by it and yet the people that live here instead of enjoying it they dont even notice.....

Ok.. first.. children (in USA) are raised on television.. then video games.. and computers.. all indoors... they hardly ever see nature... let alone go out and experience the sensations of nature..
few people have sat quietly in a forest and listened to the wildlife, smelled the air around them... and felt the quietness.
most people would rather kill nature... see a bug.. KILL IT!! see a snake... KILL IT!!... all of the lessons they were taught in biology about everything being interconnected is lost as soon as they get their driver's license.

I guess it is because life gets so hectic at times that we forget about the beauty of life. It is sad really, & I am guilty of the latter just as much as the next person. I was brought down real low not very long ago & it made me realize that there is so much out there that God has given us for enjoyment. For the first time in my life, I was left with no car. I was horrified at first. But you know..on my long walks from the bus stop to my job, I actually had the chance to appreciate my surroundings...& it was so beautiful to me! It was like a brand new place. The same path I had passed for two years looked so different on foot than it had in my car. It isn't that people don't care; I think it is just that we have gotten so busy that we simply do not notice it anymore. I have a car now. I still choose to ride the bus & take my walk to work. I appreciate nature and many more things because of it. I see what you are saying though. It is sad that it took that to make me see what was in my own back yard.

Nice question!!!
The present generation is exposed to information technology and media. If they wanna see a bug, hawk, wildflowers, etc, all they have to do is open their computer, click googles and click images. Boom, there they all appear without even leaving their home! Most people find it easy and convenient.
In some ways, others are no longer interested to go to the wilderness to watch butterflies and birds. Or go to the beaches to watch the waves and wait for the sunrise or sunset. Or climb a mountain to explore the flora and fauna and appreciate its biodiversity. Are there more to see? Most natural settings are already tampered and covered with infrastructure. Waters are so polluted with waste. The mountains are denuded by illegal loggers and miners. There is a lot of environmental destruction around us. The natural habitats in our forests are no longer there and the occupants have migrated where they are not disturbed.
Unfortunately, nothing is there for us to see.
Im glad, there are still people of your kind who wants to see things alive and appreciate everything mother nature brings. Perhaps, moral values also is a factor.

I love the woods! Yesterday i went for a walk in the woods, and along the way I just stopped and listened!
I heard the wind blowing threw the trees, the grass, trees creaking, leaves falling to the ground, several types of birds singing, and bugs buzzing! Then I heard some thing moving slowly threw the trees and bushes. I slowly turned to see what it was I was hearing. Ma be 50 feet away I saw the face of a doe looking right at me threw a small hole in the trees. We stood there looking at one another for may be two minuets before she slowly moved away into the woods. It was just nifty!
I have to admit, when I first heard the slow movement, I felt a little fear. Not so much of some wild animal (mountain lion, bobcat) sneaking up on me, but more of some crazy human!
I walk in the woods to relieve stress and to just not think. I get caught up in the sights, sounds, even the smells, and once in awhile the tastes of the woods. I found a raspberry bush the other. Free and tasty ,if not a little chewy! (the seeds)

I agree with Benthewillit and Tom --electronics and television have taken over. Back in the mid-1990's, Robert Bly wrote a book called "The Sibling Society" that also goes into this problem. In that book, a teacher complains that for elementary school kids, recess is a dud because none of the kids want to go outside anymore!
I know how you feel --I've moved to a new part of the country where I don't know the birds or the flora very well, and I'm trying to get acclimated and used to it -- it's fun and humbling.
But OTHERS who move here don't bother with that at all! I'm almost a freak for being concerned with it.

Because of the human nature. greed is a very powerful emotion, and most people feel it at least once. Many times, the only time people think about nature is how to make money off of it. Like chopping down trees for more land, killing animals for fur, or dumping waste in the area because they have nothing to do with it. Because of our nature, it is inevitable that nature itself will be neglected. But if everyone just dropped their electronics every once in a while and looked outside to admire how the planet has evolved to our needs, then maybe we could save it.

Unfortunately, we are so seperated from nature, that we can't relate to it. Look around you, how much do you see? Not much, especially if you live in the city. More people then you know are interested, but are limited in their ability to see it. Even if you take a nature hike, how much do you really see? Mostly plants, we make so much noise, that nature hides from us. For the most part, our society is afraid of nature, at most it is an inconvience for us. The woods are scary, espically at dark, there are animals that can eat us, plants that poison us, and insects that bite and sting. So, we cut down the trees so we can see further and the witches and goblins that live in the woods can't get us. Don't laugh, it's deeply rooted in our culture... nature is something to be tamed and controled. It's sad, but i hope that gets you thinking... take care.

I used to artwork for the NHS yet have been given completely sickened by employing the way the administration taken care of team. i know the place your coming from with your question and picture you likely might get help at first yet as quickly as the government and the well being board managers get there propaganda device into complete swing the generic public will quickly replace there innovations-set in direction of the nurses.the generic public haven't any thought how the administration blackmail there team i know i've got been there years in the past. In that problem the administration wished us to alter our words and stipulations which we refused to do, so they threatened to terminate 340 non everlasting workers if we did no longer settle for there new settlement. Then sent a letter to all of the non affected team to declare how ashamed we'd desire to constantly be of ourselves putting those form of human beings out of artwork it is purely a number of the methods the NHS bosses use to get there way. in case you probably did pass on strike i might help the nurses complete and beg the generic public to no longer believe the bull they study interior the papers and on the television comments. Nursing is a occupation for people who intend to make a difference, they do it to look after human beings to no longer get wealthy rapid.

Primarily because the vast majority of people now live in urban areas rather than the countryside. This is true all over the world. The fascination and understanding of nature is not practiced on a daily basis in cities.

Its Krazy right? Its like we're all ZOMBIES or something. Every week it seems like there is some type of new Disease or disorder and no one questions it. We just go out and spend thousands of dollars on drugs that are supposed to cure us but ends up causing more damage and we accept it. What ever happened to NATURAL HEALING? Maybe its a regional thing. Generally people in major cities are less concerned with these type things.
