It is never too early to be interested in politics.
In a nutshell America is disliked by many because of the government's international policies, the perception that the War on Terror is really a war on Islam, the perception that the US now believes that because the Cold War is over that the US is the only superpower and therefore should be calling all of the shots.
The perception is that the US does not respect other cultures, negotiates for unfair trade advantage, and is a loose cannon that threatens international peace under the guise of fighting terrorism, preventing nuclear proliferation while unilaterally withdrawing from strategic arms reduction treaties, attitudes towards immigration, and not joining the international community on issues such as climate change, AIDS and the International Criminal Court.
While it is appreciated that better opportunities exist in America it is our government's policies which cause so much concern. After hurricane Katrina many countries offered aid to the US, and we turned most if not all of it down.

I just answered this question so I'm cheating and coping the answer but here goes:
Because we are arrogant... or so it seems. What some people see as arrogance is really patriotism.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060627/ap_on_re_us/patriotism_survey
We have a strong national identity, and are generally proud of the country, or at least what the country should stand for. Even when our leaders do things we don't agree with, generally we still believe in the values and ideas of America.
And I'm adding something.
Legal immigration is what made this country. Many different cultures that add up to one national identity. When people arrive here legally they become part of the American society.
I've used this article many times, but one more time won't hurt.

Unfortunately, people equate leadership with the principles of our government and society.
One last thought, you are not too young to be into politics. Even if you can't vote yet (and that is the generic you, I don't know your age) you should know what is going on.

My friend, they really don't hate the American people so much as they hate American politics and corporations overseas.
A perfect example: While we have a president claiming the reason for being in one country is to set up a democracy there, this same president and his corporate friends have friendly relations with countries like Angola that has a ruthless dictatorship of a government that starves 90% of it's own people while a select few get rich off their oil contracts with American companies.
I've been in the Far East, I've been to Europe, I've been in the South Pacific. It's pretty much the same everywhere. They don't hate the average American. They hate American greed and most of them know the difference.

During the "cold war" there were two super powers and the rest of the nations on earth were primarily aligned with one or the other: the USA and the USSR. Since the breakup of the USSR, the United States is the only superpower. It is the country to "bash" as being powerful, rich, successful and "super". I also believe that Americans are not "hated" so much. I believe a great deal of that "negativity" is promulgated by the press of individual countries who find it easier to verbally attack the USA rather than focusing on their own problems. (You have to remember that the press in most countries is not "free", but rather the mouthpiece of the government in control.)

Some cultures teach their children that a free economy is a bad thing. These children grow up not knowing the real truth. Then by the time they start learning the truth it's going against all they have beet taught by their parents. I don't know a child that would admit that their mom and dad were wrong in teaching them. Even though they are her for a "better education".
So they won't admit that America is better than home. Where was she borne?
Tell her it's fine to think what she wants to think, just don't voice her opinion around you.

America is the last Super power. People hate us because we are on top. Europe hates us becasue they envy us. The middle east hates us because of our wealth nad happiness. Africa hates us because we supposedly dont do enough for the.
The reason everyone hates us is because they think we interfere. If we do to much we are blamed if we dont do enough we are blamed. Part of the burden of being America is to be the focus of everyones hate and rage. It is always easier to blame others for your problems then take responsiblity. This is what is happening just on an international level.
We have more justification to hate the rest of the world, they they have to hate us. But we rise above and continue to try to help. Our president has virtually nothing to do with anything. But Bush is an easy target for those who wish to badmouth our country. Sadly many America's blame him as well.

i do not hate total communities of persons. i attempt to ward off being that bigoted. There are those who i don't sense so strong about, yet those ar those who I both comprehend, or have some study on to entice close who they are and what the stand for. To do in the different case is ridiculous. Why hate something you do not comprehend or understand? besides the undeniable fact that you're proper. that's the unhappy actuality that we are dealing with on a commonly used foundation. Partisanship is at an all time extreme. Racism (by utilizing all races) exists. the wealthy have a bent to look down upon the unfavorable is both "stupid" or "lazy," and the unfavorable in turn change into bitter in the direction of the wealthy. I want that our us of a would positioned those alterations aside and unite. we are better than what we are getting. EDIT: Curt J, thoroughly with you in this one. even besides the undeniable fact that i'm a gentle guy myself (nonetheless in college), there are definately human beings available, on Yahoo! solutions and in the different case, who disagree, yet have honest, healthful debate with eachother, discover some center floor and take care of issues in a non violent remember. I salute you and others available who answer questions in a deferential way without resorting to hatred and anger. we want extra human beings like that out contained in the country on the instantaneous.

Hello, I dont hate the USA. I like USA. I also like Russia, Germany, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. I havent visited the other countries so I cant speak if I like them or not.
Maybe it would be better if you would keep your money for yourselve (i mean in resolving the problems of your own population) and your army would stay at home patrolling your borders instead of being abroad. Maybe if you would do this you would be loved by other nations. Regarding your classmate I think that you gave her the right answer. Bye and good night.

american people are not hated it is american foreign policy and their interferrence in other countries when it suits the USA's agenda. the USA has an appalling human rights record in its own country eg. the death penalty which it refuses to withdraw and if you take some time to investigate this, the people that are on death row are mostly african americans - what does this say. also suspected terrorists held in Guantanamo Bay without trial for years. the USA has a very low tolerance of difference in people and other cultures and at times is very racist. the bush administration and the propoganda they sprout potrays the USA in a very poor light.
