Yes, due simply to the fact there are such things as false friends. By definition, if you're not a false friend, then you're a true friend.

Here is a reality answer. A true friend is what you perceive a true friend to be. Some pointers I have discovered over the years is this, a true friend will love you no matter what you look like. A true friend will go out of their way to help you when they can, a true friend will make you laugh when you need to laugh or cry with you when you need to cry. A true friend will always be careful not to step on your feelings while reminding you that sometimes your needs cross over into a zone they do not go into, but will advise you best that they can. Remember this one thing, it is an old saying and I am not sure who coined it, but it goes like this: "To have a friend, you have to be a friend." If you can say to yourself that you are a true friend, then there is really such a thing as a true friend.

Absolutely.
Friendship is a term used to denote co-operative and supportive behaviour between two or more social entities. This article focuses on the notion specific to interpersonal relationships. In this sense, the term connotes a relationship which involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection. Friends will welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism. Their tastes will usually be similar and may converge, and they will share enjoyable activities. They will also engage in mutually helping behavior, such as exchange of advice and the sharing of hardship. A friend is someone who may often demonstrate reciprocating and reflective behaviors. Yet for many, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not harm them.

Yes. I have had some friends since I was a child, and I am now 53. Other friends I have had for a short time in comparison, but they all have one thing in common. They have stuck by me and have helped when I most needed it. I have also helped them whenever they have needed it. We sometimes don't see each other for a couple months, but then when we get together it is as if it was yesterday when we last saw each other. True friends tell it like it is, but in a gentle way, they build your self-esteem not by telling you a bunch of crap but by showing you that you are worth the world to them. Dear cherished friends are a precious thing, keep 'em if you've got 'em.
