I went through this as well. And I worried if my little one would walk when she should.... And of course I worried for nothing she walked right before turning a year old.....I also used socks with treads...or kept her barefoot..No worries trust me when he is ready to walk he will regardless of wood floors or anything else...kids are so much more determined than us as parents might think...

My sister had that problem.

She just went out and got a whole lot of area rugs cheap.
Get the kind that won't slip. They have a rubber backing on them that grips the wood floor.

She still left a lot of wood flooring open and Kyla, my neice is in school now and just fine.

She never hurt herself when she fell.

Sharp corners on furniture is really the most dangerous.

That, and large book cases or entertainment centers.
The child can climb up them and they are just heavy enough to make the shelves fall on them. This is usually fatal. Be sure to anchor ANYTHING, that fits that description to the wall securely.

Yeah, about the floors, just a few area rugs should do the trick.

Lots of area rugs and band-aids! I know my son has recently started crawling and likes the kitchen floor, his poor little knees. My sister has a one year old and has wood floors though out her house and she seemed to do fine. They have a area rug by furniture and usually will pull themselves up on couches and stuff first. If the weather is good take him outside on the grass a lot when he starts to take his first steps. It will be a soft landing at least. And they have those things they hold onto and push to learn to walk with, help keep his balance and hold onto when he starts to fall. Good Luck, if he is anything like mine I can wait a little while for him to walk. I already have to chase him around, and he gets into everything!

Not having children of my own..i cant give you motherly advice but Auntie advice.

First, do not put any type of slippery fabric on the floor for your son to crawl on....my friends daughter fell and smashed her mouth on the floor because the blanket slipped while she was trying to stand.

Invest in a nice but not too expensive rug.. (if u like your hardwood floors) so that your son can crawl and learn to walk without fear of getting hurt. Kids are fearless at that age so he doesnt know that falling on the floor will hurt....save yourself, and baby some scarey and hurtful moments...invest in the rug! :)

we have hard marble tiles, and we had a lot of falls. I think it looks more painful than it is - when my kids fell, they just got back up again. I was the wreck :). You can also get socks with treads underneath which help prevent slipping, although if he learns to walk in the summer, skin is best. Dont worry - tons of kids went through it and are fine!

We let ours go barefoot for one thing. Socks are slippery and make it harder for his toes to grip the floor. We have one carpeted room and we worked on him walking back and forth between us in that room only. His ability grew as his confidence did and the falls weren't that bad. We have area rugs on certain floors, so that might have helped a little... about as much as a pair of sweat pants would probably.

Baby Gap has socks that stay on with rubber treads on the bottom. Don't hover too much. They'll learn better like you do when carrying a too full cup of coffee to your desk. ;-D
