Excellent question!

The original hit, I Can See Clearly Now, was released in September of 1972 and became a #1 record that stayed at the top of the charts for 4 weeks.

There is also an excellent version by Gladys Knight and the Pips. It was on one of their albums and never released as a single but it sounded great.
