The easiest way can be formatting that partition or update the MBR for Xp only. Instead of having two windows OS on different partitions, u cud hav upgraded to Xp, while saving 98 files.

Well, you have got windows xp and 98 on different partitions. In order to get rid of windows 98,run xp and delete the folder "Windows" in the partition where 98 is installed. If you have installed 98 in c drive, make sure you do not delete any other file or folder, especially the BOOT.ini file.Once you delete this folder running xp,you will no longer be able to use win 98 but win xp will remain unaffected. You will not be able to delete this folder running win 98.After restarting computer, your boot loader will still show win 98 but on pressing return on it's name an error message will be displayed. However, you will be able to use xp without any problem.I do not reccomend you to alter the BOOT.ini file located in c: drive.

There are two methods to do your job

Now first keep the windows 98 CD and there you can uninstall it

The other method is that you should format the drive in which windows 98 is present

while choosing which option comes first ie
1 Microsoft Windows
2 Microsoft Windows XP
if 98 is the first option you will have to change it to the second option and then delete(format) the partition in which it is installed. .

Sounds like you already have a dual boot system. Why not install Linux on one of the partitions and try something really different.
