Why do so many people in other countries hate the US so much?

Because they see America for what we really are, money hungry and arrogant. America does alot of messed up things to other countries, we just don't hear about it. Yes, there is freedom of speech, but the government controls the press. Think about it, we are terrorizing iraq right now, but acting like we are helping them. We are doing it because Mr. Bush wants more MONEY! We are the ignorant people who chose him to represent us. Take what everyone thinks of the president, multiply it by 100 and that's how other countries think of him and us.

I have some family members who travel worldwide and the consensus seems to be that Americans are arrogant, gluttonous and self-important. I can see why they think that after speaking with some citizens of different countries. Once they come to the U.S. and meet people they change their minds, but until then they have no other info to go on except popular opinion, which is that we suck!

Lately I have to agree with their popular opinion. What a mess we are making out of the world in order to feed the egos and pocketbooks of some very small minded men.

Because we are arrogant... or so it seems. What some people see as arrogance is really patriotism.

We have a strong national identity, and are generally proud of the country, or at least what the country should stand for. Even when our leaders do things we don't agree with, generally we still believe in the values and ideas of America.

Arrogance and violence has never been loved too much... the country behaves like a global police man with ethics changing according to its own convenience... It decides unilaterally and bullies others to agree with it even when wrong... It meddles with economies and politics of other countries and more often than not supports a*se licking dictators and assassinates democratic leaders hostile to American interest. These are obviously not very pleasing traits.

They hate us because we think we are better than everyone else.
The stupid fat jerks that go to other countries and decide they don't have to obey the "No Flash Photography" signs are a big reason people in other countries do not like us.
Also, overall, we are VERY rude.

There are more people that don't hate the U.S. -- and plenty who dislike the current U.S. government but like the country and our people -- but liking the U.S. doesn't make for interesting news, so international dislike of the U.S. gets overplayed.

Of the dislike that does exist, though, it is largely from people who fear American power. To Americans, the U.S. is "us", but to people in other countries, the U.S. is "them", and a powerful "them" can be scary, even if its intentions are good.
