I posted a definition of the word critic on urbandictionary.dot.com, this is what I posted, do you agree with my definition? -

1. critic
2 thumbs up

A critic is someone who has no discernible talent so tries to make someone else feel as useless as he/she is.

Critic 'Dude, you SUCK at guitar'
Billy 'Oh, so I guess you're a guitar genius then?'
Critic 'No, I can't play guitar'

Sorry I probably phrased that badly. I'm talking about critics on the net specifically. I've posted some videos of my guitar playing on the net just for fun, I never claimed to be a professional guitarist, below is an actual message I got -

'> I hope you know you've completely ruined mine and other people's favourite songs. I hope you get ovarian cancer and die D:'

Not at all...

A critic is:

Someone who analyzes a particular service, product or performance, and provides feedback as to the positive and negative aspects, often for the purpose of making said product, service or performance better (i.e. constructive criticism).

***ADDED LATER***...in which case, I agree with you. There are two types of criticism: constructive criticism, and destructive criticism (which is tantamount to sheer ignorance). Constructive criticism can be negative, yet still positive (does that make sense). Destructive criticism is, as your definition indicates, usually is practiced by those who, at the very least, are talentless. You may not be the greatest guitarist, but I can watch your videos and provide feedback (like, you need to work on blah, blah...). I think the real difference is this: good criticism is criticism that makes you feel like you want to work a little harder, make yourself a little better. Poor criticism is that which makes you feel like giving up.

Ignore that destructive criticism. No one ever achieved any measure of success immediately. It took Abe Lincoln a failed career, losing in multiple elections, etc... before he become one of the greatest Presidents; it took Edison numerous failures before he invented the light bulb; It takes a lot of sorry guitar playing to become a great guitarist.

I disagree wholeheartedly. I believe your question is rooted in bitterness toward some person who was critical towards you.

While a critic could certainly be a person who does not have a specific talent, that does not exclude those who do have that talent. Further, critics are often quite experienced and educated in the particular field they are observing.

If you want to bash them yes, otherwise, there are a bunch of critics out there that do a great job.

Critic: Someone who filters junk according to his opinion.

Warning: if you don't have the same mindset as the individual critic DO NOT READ his reviews.
