Honestly, I would go with the Sony. I have a Sony Nw-hd3 and and an nw-e507, and they are both great. The sound quality and storage capacity is awesome. The only problem that I have with them is that the software isn't that great. It's definitely not the best and can use some changes, but it is tolerable. As for the iPod, I wouldn't know, because I've never owned one.

Sonys are great products, what music lover said is true. Ipod nanos are pretty cool, but you gotta get a case for it because it can break easily due to how small it is (not that big of a problem with a good case). I would take the Nano over the A606 because the nano is easier to use. On the a1000, I looked it up and its new to me, looks wider than nano, but fairly easy to use. Also the a1000 holds more, but cost twice as much. If you were thinkin bout spening 200 dollars, get a refurbished Ipod Photo, not video. Dont let Refurbished fool you, it is new, and is cheaper. You can also check ebay for the photo ipod, usually cheaper.
Also the Creative line of mp3 players are fantastic (V, V Plus, Zen Micro Photo)
