Switch to MSN Messenger or Yahoo, Or Google.

I agree 100% with Mr Wizard's comment above. AOL is loaded with spyware and other crap.

Dump AIM. Bette yet: dump AOL all together. AOL is chock loaded with system slowdown spyware and other garbage.
Find a better ISP. Then use Yahoo Messenger or ICQ: you can be visible to whomever you want to see you.

Log in to aim with a better chat client like trillian. its alot harder to boot and can chat on msn, yahoo, aim, icq at the same time

there is no protection against booting.
send a complaint email to aim. ... hopefully you'll get some help.
