Depends on what Operating system you are using. Are you using OS 9 or older?

There hasnt been a mac with a floppy drive in years, so I am assuming you are using something prior to a G3.

Try Command E or throw into the trash (the trash can icon should change to an eject icon)

use the eject button or drag it to the trash and it should eject safely.
