because of the way your sitting..
when I worked in daycare I'd sit on the kiddie chairs and it would happen then.

If you think about it it's just another part of your body, why couldn't it fall asleep?

Could be the way you're sitting is constricting the blood flow. Try to at least stand up for a couple of minutes whenever you can.

Because you sit for a long time. Get out and do something you enjoy.

Move, change your position. Your body pretty much does it automatically while you sleep.

if you sit while pressing your thighs then you are pressing the femoral nerve thus weekining the nerve transmission and thus loosing the sensations which leads to the numbness.
can happen with sciatic nerve too , but due to its location and protecton by the gluteal muscles , (not that common)
