This might sound odd, but this is yahoo answers, and I cant ask anyone else, here it goes. I was laying on my bed talking on the phone to my dad, and I was picking at my belly button for no real reason, something to do while I was chatting. Anyway, after I the conversation was over, I felt something waxy on my finget nail, I put it up to my nose and it smelled pretty bad, and I tasted it very unpleasent. I freaked out, had no idea what it was, then I noticed a smell, still no luck on the cause. Later that night as I undressed before bed, I smelled something as I took of my shirt. And I traced it to my belly button. I opened it up with my fingers, and all this white stuff and hair are trapped inside. And some yellow crust is in there really deep. Does this happen to anyone? I have never cleaned it out before, and dont know how. And its starting to turn pink all around the area.

If you don't clean your belly button, then stuff in there can get waxy, cheesy, and even infected. I always use soap to clean inside my belly button when in the shower, but if I feel the need, I will also take a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol and disinfect it. It sounds like this is what you need to do, until you get it thoroughly cleaned. It will be pink for a little while because you aggravated it. If you've never cleaned it before, it's not used to the attention you just gave it, so it'll get a little irritated. This should go away on its own. Just make sure the CLEAN IT so it doesn't get more infected in addition to being tender and sore.

Q-tip! I have a weird annoyance with things in my belly button, especially -sand-. Guh! As for the pink, it'll do that when you play with it. ^_^;;
Wet the q-tip (warm water, or in your mouth) and swab it out. Do this a couple times (don't ever stick it back in your mouth after you've swabbed with that end! y'have no idea what's in there! =0 After all, your belly button is a warm and moist area, probably ripe to grow stuff), and do it every once in a while.. Every couple of months or so. If you are in sand, or have no shirt while outside when it's windy, or any other situations with dirt and stuff getting in there, clean it out more. = ) Just be careful not to scratch it with anything, especially a sharp fingernail. I did that once because it was so itchy and cut it up in there. Gah, that hurt...
Oh, next time? If you touch something unidentifiable, don't -taste- it. XD Although that gave me a laugh when I read it; thanks for that.

You can take a q-tip soaked in alcohol first and swab inside the belly button, then take a q-tip soaked in peroxide and swab the area, it sounds like you have an infection in there. After you use the peroxide take soap and clean it out real well. I would do this every day for a week, if that doesn't work then you need to go to your doctor and he can give you an antibiotic cream.

RELAX! It is only red because you have been picking at it. My belly button is the same way, it stinks. I guess bacteria gets trapped in there or something. But it's not anything unusual. Also lint from your clothes gets trapped in there, thats the white stuff. Periodically clean it out like you are doing, it will get red from all the picking. But this will go away in a day or two.

Ok the fact that you actually tasted it, lets me know you are not much of a clean person.
I've had some awful odor on it too, turns out its a yeast infection. But hell I'd never even think of tasting it! thats just pure gross!
Anyway, there are creams for that, its not a contagious yeast so theres nothing to worry about...
Now, next time you have something oozy, white yellowish, in your fingernail, and it actually smells dreadfully, I can guarantee you, it WONT taste good.

That is normal,specially when the navel is considered deep, dirt, liquid or even soap residue traps inside and with that kind of surroundings bacterial growth is very likely to happen, also the reason it has unpleasant odor. You can clean it carefully with soft cotton buds wet with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol may do too. But be careful not to irritate the skin.

Thats perfectly normal although if you get the same odor when you take off your pants check your foreskin seeping puss or your vagina for heavy yeast discharge and if you have not bathed in over four weeks try getting a wash cloth and wrap it around a wooden spoon then rub it between your *** crack it will help to loosen up all the narlys that need removing.

Your belly button is just another part of your body and needs cleaning. You probably scraped it when you were fiddling with it and it got a little infected. Clean it like you clean your ears. Wash with soap and clean inside then rinse. It will probably clear up with this treatment in a couple days. If it doesn't, you should see your doctor.
