You use each letter in a word like "TEAM" and make a phrase that defines the word "TEAM" with the first letter of each word being the letters in the original word while keeping each letter in order, i.e. Together, Everyone, Achieves, Miracles = TEAM.

This depends...

The example you gave is an Acronym because the phrase created is made of one word pieces that accurately reflect the meaning of the root word.

Also a useful definition is Acrostic. An acrostic is usually a poem with phrases in place of the one word pieces of an acronym. Often acrostics are used to describe the character of the author by spelling out the letters of his name with descriptive phrases.

An anagram, however, is a word or phrase with the exact same content of letters as another word or phrase such that the letters can be interspersed in order to form a new meaningful word or phrase. An example my English teacher loved to use follows: "Listen is an anagram of Silent, you malcontent, despicable hooligans."

Now for good measure, I will include the definition of a Palindrome. A palindrome is a word or phrase that reads exactly the same backwards as well as forwards. Examples: SO MANY DYNAMOS, KAYAK, RACECAR... the list goes on and on.

Well, that was quite a lot more information than you needed.

I don't believe it is called an anagram because an anagram uses the letters in any order usually mixing them up. In this case the question is asked using the letters exactly in their order, i.e., TEAM Together Everyone Achieves Miracles. I think that may be different than an anagram.

I believe acrostic would be correct.

In that context it is a mnemonic device if the words that comprise the abbreviate are to assist in the definition of the word.
