More of an opinion than anything else, national pride is taught and drilled into the thought process of the very young in every country, not just in the United States. From beginning school with the pledge of allegiance, to the immigration naturalization test, every aspect of our lives enhance and heighten our national pride. It's the same way in every country, thus everyone grows up believing their country to be the best, and can be blind sighted by those beliefs instilled in them from youth.

when people claim their country is best it is not in comparison with other nations. it is their perception about there own country. the best here is related to the criteria they have made themselves for a best nation and if their country fits in then they call it the best. more so one cannot compare two countries cause any criteria laid down for that may or may not be rated equally in those countries and they differ from person to person.
