and vulgar name calling that so many people claiming to be a liberal or conservative do is going to change someones mind? do you think someone is sitting there thinking, "well i was going to be a liberal but i see here according to liberals_svck23 that they are all %$@ ^%^&& #$^ *(^% half a brain ^$##$^ ^##$%^& &%$ *()&$@" so i will be a conservative instead!"
or is it just that alot of people out there, on both sides, enjoy and feel better putting people down and being insulting? and if thats the case, don't you feel sort of stupid and ashamed of some of the things you bring yourself to say?

KT - um, i did sight both sides as doing this. my long example used a con calling a lib name by luck, yes i flipped a coin. cons were heads and libs were tails for various abstract reasons chosen after some posts i had read.

Insults and fights result from those who are out of ideas.

I have been insulted lots of times by liberals because they don't agree with my viewpoints with vulgarity and rude comments. When I try to defend my beliefs, they get worse as if they are picking a fight. That's what I have had to deal with personally on here. I can't believe sometimes just how nasty it gets. Name calling by either side is indeed childish.

It's a shame that people are trying to divide this country. It's as bad as the Sunnis and the Sheites. We're almost as divided as we were during the Civil War. We are all Americans and we need to work together to improve our lives.

It doesn't for me. I don't like either of those parties for the particular point you are raising here now. It is childlike, and you don't get a great debate going when you have those on both sides calling each other names like libtard or repuke or consh_t. I agree with your analogy of this situation..

I agree with you. It's one thing to disagree, and constructive debate is good for America as a whole, whether your voice is one of support or dissent. However, calling names doesn't add anything meaningful to the dialogue and just shows a lack of maturity. It embarrasses me when my side does it, and annoys me when the other side does.

You have to understand that a lot of people here will at times just say things to cause "a stir", some of it is just joking, blowing off steam etc.

Most of us know we are not going to sway the other side, so we settle for insulting them instead!

Oh good gravy yes! Questions like "Why are liberals so retarded?" or "Why are conservatives so stupid?" are even worse than "Is my avatar sexy?"
