Since the media tells us just about everything, including complete contradictions of each other, then some of them have to be right (if only by accident). The question is not "why we should believe what the media tell us", the question, is, which specific source do consider most trustworthy and reliable.
There is every kind of media out there saying every kind of thing.

You shouldn't ever completley believe the media. of course they edit somethings so it's more interesting. But usually there is a missing piece or two.
Another problem with the media is it is usually laced with the writers opinion which can be dusted on so lightly that you don;t realize it and it become your opinion too without knowing the whole truth.
if I read something or watch something on tv that i find interesting, i look up teh subject as much as possible. It's funny to see the same story written by two different newspapers and see the major difference on the "who, what where and when"

Not in its entirety. There is a saying that goes like this "there is a bit of truth in every lie & vice versa". when we hear something via the media, it is for us to try to get to the underlying info. since we are never given the full version. Once we get that, we can get to the heart of the matter.
Take into consideration human error and at times manipulation of the truth.

Don't believe anything the media tells you. Most of it is biased, much of it is misleading and some of it is simply wrong. Always question what is presented to you as fact.

Speaking as a journalist, I would say it's best to use the news as a jumping off point for your own research. We try to provide balanced coverage - but we're limited by time constraints and the simple fact that we can't learn everything about a topic or find every pertinent source before deadline.

Because part of each story is true. The key is to be discerning.
