I've tried hooking up a splitter to the (cheap) tv and one to the modem. I only get one channel.

Please no stupid answers about stealing cable because other people have to pay for it. Cable is a non-depletable resource. It's like air. Nobody has to pay if I'm receiving a signal that was already there. Intelligent answers only please.
