i completely agree. then the government would be receiving taxes off of it, and there would be legal protection for women in the industry.

as it is now, b/c of prostitutions illegal status women who are forced into have nowhere to turn.
but in some countries where it is legal, there are actually unions that protect the rights and well being of those who do this.

for crying out loud, if porn and stripping is legal, why shouldnt prostitution be?

Sure, it's a private thing between the prostitute and the client. However there are many reasons why it may be illegal in some places. One, most cities and towns don't want to see their streets littered with whores in scanty clothing, it's bad for business to all their shops and such. Speaking of shops, prositutes don't pay taxes like regular business/shop owners so not only are they scaring away good customers, but they're scaring away good customers who can pay taxes to the government. There are probably many other reasons why prositution is not legal, but those two are the basics. There are various places where one can find prostitutes legally, so it isn't as if everyplace is being withheld from their sexual right, as your viewpoint seems to be.

Because the government would have to have a way to collect taxes. The employees of legal brothels in Nevada pay taxes, but as far as I know, Nevada (except the city of Las Vegas) is the only place prostitution is legal. That would probably be a tough industry to regulate. The government doesn't like to be left outta the loop when it comes to people making money under the table.

It's legalised in my country (NZ).
After a lot of debate and protest a couple of years ago.
The world hasn't come to an end so it can't be all that bad?

They now pay taxes.
And they no longer have to be afraid of the Police so it is now safer for them to report attacks etc.
Health wise it is safer as community health workers are able to provide treatment and prevention etc.

Enforced prostitution and the prostitution of minors is still very illegal and easier to police now the sex workers are able to go to the police like anyone else.

I think that it should be legal as well. The only reason I can think of as to why it isn't is that so many prostitutes that do it illegally are killed and this could be an attempt to prevent many More from happening.

First of all, not all prostitutes are adults. some are teens, runaways, in need of money, others are kidnapped and forced into it.
Second, most johns (research has shown,) have wives and families, and should be spending their money on their families.
Third, it cheapens one of the most beautiful things two people can do to express their love for one another and turns it into a cheap, tawdry, NASTY business transaction, leaving both parties open to: unwanted children, and a few very nasty STD's.

It is the government's business when they don't get their cut of money in the taxes.

If you get caught with illegal prostitution, you get a list of illegal charges against you, and not paying sales taxes, or claiming income is one of them.

So if you paid your taxes, even though it is illegal, you would be doing the "Right thing" in that respect. However, for some reason, the government would be exempt of illegal charges of receiving money obtained from illegal services, but you as a person would be.

Yes, it should. Way too much money is spent on fighting a problem that hurts no one, unless it is publicized. Girls are arrested and released in hours, and johns usually get a slap on the wrist, or their families are destroyed with the publicity. Unless the girl is forced into it, keep your nose out of it, and hey collect taxes on it like other countries do.

In Canada and some US states prostitution is not illegal it is the soliciting for prostitution which is illegal. Prostitution has been going on for so long and the lawmakers know it they just can't seem to agree on getting rid of it or allowing it.

Because of pimps, some girls may be forced into prositution. Also it shouldnt be seen as a career option like dealing drugs. There's already enough low lifes in the world.
