I just bought a car thats has a manual transmission and I've noticed that people are in such a hurry especially after a light turns green and they notice upon take off that I'm unable to go that fast (at first). But that could just be in Atlanta.

I think its funny when I get behind someone new to driving a stick shift. Watching them so everything they can to get it moving forward and not hop like a frog. Been there done that, lol. Its a learning curve, congrats on getting a stick shift it probably saved you some money so that's good for you. As far as others getting pissed at you for being slow, don't worry they will always be pissed about something when driving.. Keep on trucking...........TC

I get a little frustrated when somebody is really slow at take off, I don't know if they are driving a manual or not though. I just got a new car and chose the manual, I had to learn how to drive it. I am getting much better at going from a stop, I take too long sometimes though, and if I rush myself then I give it too much gas and make the car screech.

I don't think people mind so much until you make the car turn off and you have to restart it. I've done that several times in traffic, and was honked at about 1 time, lol. Just as long as you drive really good and straight when you begin rolling nobody cares I guess. a slow start is good if you speed up like you are supposed to. Drive it the right way and it's ok.

i have driven a stick for 10 years and would not drive anything else it is all you as to why you are not as fast. good thing to do it is what is watch the other lights in the intersection and when the cross traffic turns yellow i put it into gear, if that is not your problem then you just need more experience when it takes some time but in my 4 cylinder i can beat a v8 of the line almost every time it just takes practice. go to a empty parking lot and just practice like you were at a light that just turned green. i did this with my friend that got a stick and had never driven one it only took a few days for her to get the hang of it, it was like she had driven one all her life.

No.

I mostly drive a stick shift. My old Isuzu Amigo shifts to second a little roughly and I have to take my time.

If you drive a stick chances are you're a better driver than they are. If they are impatient and blowing their horns they are demonstrating idiocy, not driving skill.

If they are impatient, blowing their horns and talking on a cell phone they are demonstrating lunacy, idiocy, discourtesy and not driving skill.

If they are impatient, blowing their horns, talking on a cell phone and snuggling with a girl or boy friend they are demonstrating all of the above and you had best get out of their way, however is possible most easily.

It isn't just in Atlanta. I guess every state is giving driver's licenses with seven boxtops from Wheaties.

I drive a stick... its a light pick-up with a four cylinder, so I'm the guy who frustrates the hell out of you pulling away from red lights and such.... deal with it.

Nope, it's like that here in Toronto too! Personally, I can tell that that person's driving shift because of the way the car chugs and pray to god that it's got a speedy driver who can accelerate.

A stick only chugs or is slow to take off if the driver isn't used to driving it.When you get used to it you'll be smoother and no one will know the difference.

i hate people that want a fast takeoff. im gonna get an older truck that i dont care about messing up and if someone gets mad at me, I'll throw it into reverse, slam into them, and stand on the gas.

just kidding. but i do hate people who want an instant takeoff

it's a operator problem not a problem with the manual transmission!
