im 16 and i run track and x-country 2. i would say long runs help a lot, but switch it up a little. take it to the track somedays and just run repeat 400's. just a tip for a little inspiration, steve prefountaine was probably one of the hardest working runners i've ever seen.

Long runs are important...I would say 5 miles or more but you also need to work in reps of shorter runs on some days...On those days do a short warm up run after stretching...Try 5-100m's 4-200m 3-400m 2-800m 1 mile then work your way back down starting at the 2- 800m's 3 -400m's etc. Some days maybe just run some 400 m dashes only. Rest a few minutes in between reps longer breaks after the longer runs...This will build not only endurance but better times on long runs.

Well .......... You need 5 or more people. It's called an Indian run. All are @ a comfortable jog in single file line the one in front will pas a stick to the one directly behind and so forth until the one in the back has the stick. Then the one in the back sprints to the front with the stick. Do this for 3 to 5 miles, every other day. You should see results within 2 months.
