did you checked the manual. Contact also the coputer shop maybe it is a defective bat.

Well, first remove the battery and check the contacts, then if there OK there might be a button on the battery it self, press it it should show how much charge is in it, if that doesn't help return it to the store they should be able to do something cause it's still under warranty if you just bought it, most give you a 30 to 90 day warranty.

If it's BRAND new, check to make sure you installed the battery in the first place.
Also make sure there is no insulative materials on the battery contacts.
If you are looking in the boxes for a separate battery charger, there isn't one. Just leave the laptop plugged in to recharge it (assuming the battery is in the unit).

return it and get your money back. You just bought it and the batery wont charge? whats next the mother board? i work on Gateways and they are garbage.

I recommend calling gateway, if it's brand new then it should have a warranty
