I have to work on staying in a joyous state around depressed, moping, negative people. Their vibe just rubs me the wrong way. :-)

I agree we have to allow our Joy to be stolen -- it's figuring out how to say no to that, when negative people are impossible to avoid in my life.

I tend to find that the greatest joy comes from some of the more mundane things that tend to go unnoticed. There are several things throughout a person's day that by the end of it, when you finally get a chance to settle down and take in all the events of the day, that you start to balance out if in actuality it was a good day or bad day and reflect on all the things that occured that inspired those feelings. You may tend to find that the same works in reverse in that minor bad things can have adverse affects on what was once a joyful day.
In dealing with having good days constantly ripped from you by depressing or negative people, try to turn what they're saying or doing into a joke. If you can, maybe place the face of your favorite cartoon character or television star in place of theirs and think of them saying/doing these things. Try to turn it into a joke. Imagine yourself doing something totally unsuspecting and random and try to imagine their reaction. Hopefully, you'll find yourself running wild with your imagination and eventually you'll be able to rip yourself away from the people and things that are stealing your joy and retaining it with your own laughter.

People who lie and cheat steal my joy. There is so much abundance in this world, no one need take advantage of another person. Once it's been stolen, it's hard to get back, so I just keep thinking of that person's karma, knowing the universe eventually will deal with them.

The conditioning of my parents that say, "what do you think you're doing," when I try something different or try to be my own person. Sometimes educational TV gets me out of it. Pleasant fantasies help. I'm afraid I use caffeine pills sometimes. Never Never use alcohol. That is for nerves. It will make depression worse.
Yes, people will be dangerous to be around if they are in a bad mood. They probably want to be left alone and that is probably what you should do.

Being spirtitually grounded and knowing God's purpose for your life is most important. Being a Christian, I understand that satans purpose is to kill, still and destroy. He knows your destiny and does not want you to reach the point that God has planned for you. Consequently, because satan knows the weaker points of your spirit, he prays on them and sends negative people as well as environments into your life to distract your focus on the positive. Find out where you stand spiritually and become grounded in that. Once you do, realize that perception is your reality. How you perceive a thing is how it is going to affect you. Do not allow others to determine your happiness. You are responsible for your own feelings.
